Signed into law in 1993, “Don’t ask, don’t tell” prohibited openly gay, lesbian and bisexual men and women from serving in the military.
Investigations into suspected homosexual behavior led to the dismissal of thousands of troops. With the cooperation of Congress and military leaders, President Obama signed legislation to repeal Don’t ask, don’t tell, which was enacted on September 20th, 2011, ending the policy. NEXT >
