Bridgegate Sampler III: Pecan Sandy Relief: Zimmer
Dawn Zimmer became the first female mayor of Hoboken in 2009, following a special election. In 2012, Hurricane Sandy left half of Hoboken under water. Praised for her leadership after the storm, Zimmer was appointed to the President’s Hurricane Sandy Rebuilding Task Force. She was re-elected in 2013.
On January 18, 2014, with the bridge scandal underway, Zimmer came forward, alleging that Christie Lt. Governor, Kim Guadagno had told her that Sandy funds were tied to her approval of a development project with the Rockefeller Group, a client of Wolff & Samson. On January 20th, Guadagno held a press conference denying Zimmer’s claims. Christie’s internal investigation found that Zimmer had confused “subjective perceptions” with “reality”.
Dawn Zimmer has met with investigators at the U.S. Attorney’s Office. She says she waited to come forward because she feared no one would believe her. Governor Christie has since proposed a law that would punish officials who wait to report misconduct. NEXT >
