Barack Obama Election Cake
On November 6, 2012, Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States, won re-election. He defeated Mitt Romney, the former Governor of Massachusetts.
Election Cake, found in the first American cookbook, American Cookery by Amelia Simmons, 1796, traces back to pre-revolutionary Connecticut. (It is also known as “Hartford Election Cake”).

Local governments commissioned Election Cakes for electoral occasions, which were festive and social. Later, cake slices were given out as a means of securing a vote. NEXT >
